Senior Portfolio Manager - Feedstock Technology Operations, Nexus Circular
BIOGRAPHY
Marcquel Pickett, Senior Portfolio Manager at Nexus Circular, has over a decade of experience in the recycling industry, holding key leadership roles across operations, logistics, quality and process improvement. He has managed large-scale operations, including the largest pre-consumer food waste recycling programs, helped startup a post-consumer PET reclaimer, and focused on film recycling grant development with a nationally recognized NGO. Marcquel is driven by data and technology to solve complex challenges, enhance efficiency, and uncover value throughout the plastics value chain. In his current role at Nexus Circular, he applies his expertise to develop innovative recycling processes, focusing on leveraging sortation and cleaning process technologies to create sustainable solutions for hard-to-recycle plastics, including non-woven materials.Marcquel holds a Master's Degree in Environmental Management and Sustainability from the Illinois Institute of Technology and a Bachelor's Degree in Economics from Kalamazoo College.

Demystifying & Unlocking the Potential for Pyrolysis
As industries continue to face challenges in recycling non-woven plastics due to their complex composition, pyrolysis offers a transformative solution. Non-wovens—used extensively in hygiene products, healthcare, and packaging—contain multi-layered materials and contaminants that hinder traditional recycling methods. Pyrolysis, a thermal decomposition process, breaks down these materials into valuable outputs, such as pyrolysis oil and gas, which are then used in producing virgin-quality plastics.
This presentation will delve into the science and scalability of pyrolysis, showcasing how Nexus Circular has integrated this technology to tackle the complexities of non-woven plastic recycling. We will explore real-world applications, process efficiency, and the environmental benefits of reducing landfill dependency and incineration. The presentation will also address the evolving regulatory landscape and the role of advanced recycling in achieving circularity goals.
Attendees will gain technical insight into pyrolysis, its application in processing non-woven plastics, and its role in closing the loop on hard-to-recycle materials.
