Comparison of Hemp Fiber Based Spunlace Formulations to Select Traditional Spunlace Products

IND HEMP has a successful line of technical fibers for airlaid thermobonded and carded needle punched nonwovens. Now, we are developing a suite of premium fibers to support textile & spunlace nonwovens. A three-phase program has been launched to evaluate these fibers in spunlace (carding and hydro entangling) applications. The first phase, showing initial compatibility with spunlace manufacturing process, has been completed successfully at the NC State Nonwovens Institute. The second phase, completed at Southeast Nonwovens, focused on comparing and contrasting the physical properties of specific spunlace formulations. This data has identified competitive advantages of hemp fiber formulations and is being used to direct a focused large-scale product trial during Phase 3. The Rise presentation will provide a summary of Phase 2 test results, illustrating the performance of hemp fibers and application specific attributes in side-by-side comparison to other traditional spunlace formulations.
