Nonwoven Fibre Which Enhances the Circular Economy
Aquapak Polymers manufactures their patent protected thermally processable polyvinyl alcohol (PVOH/PVA) in the UK which is then imported to regions such as the U.S for secondary conversion by the process of meltblowing for applications such as wet wipes where there has been major commercial interest due to its mechanical and end of life properties, together with its ability to combine with water-based lotions without adversely affecting its flushability makes it a viable alternative to conventional materials.
Due to its processing, this is an innovative technology and unlike traditional plastics Aquapak’s technology is inherently water-soluble, biodegradable, non-toxic, and marine safe. Aquapak’s innovative material has the efficacy of traditional plastic fibres whilst meeting the sustainability and end of life credentials normally associated with natural fibres.
The water solubility property means that not only are nonwoven wipes flushable, but they fully dissolve based on testing conducted according to industry flushability standards, subsequently they biodegrade in effluent plants without causing problems to sewer and wastewater systems.
Aquapak are currently conducting research into bio-based material, however, in the meantime have a viable solution that enables guilt-free use and disposal of wet wipes, removing costly education campaigns as well as confusion around disposal for consumers.
